Creative Fellowship

Between elite universities and portfolio schools, the industry has created a talent loop. Our workplaces are largely homogenous. This is why we’re looking outside typical networks to find exceptional talent to join us.

We’re inviting emerging creative talent from a variety of disciplines – writing, art direction, filmmaking, visual design, product design, and more – to work with Google’s creative teams for nine months. You don’t need a degree or a portfolio to apply, just passion. Participants can expect hands-on experience with projects, one-on-one mentorship, networking opportunities, events, and speakers.

The Creative Fellowship ushers in a new, diverse generation of talent – and benefits the industry at large by bringing in fresh, innovative perspectives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Creative Fellowship?

The Creative Fellowship is a global program for emerging creative talent that offers ongoing mentorship, helpful networking opportunities and hands-on experience across Google’s various in-house creative teams.

What does the program entail?

Along with meaningful mentorship and networking opportunities, each participant will have a bespoke experience dependent upon their unique creative skill set and creative team. From designers to copywriters, from Brand Studio in the UK to Material Design in the US, check out our application to see the diverse set of opportunities available across the globe.

Will the program be remote?

Yes, the program is designed to be fully remote. Laptops and Wi-Fi reimbursement will be provided during the program. If and when it’s safe to return to the offices, we’ll revisit our program’s plans. As of now, everything will be held over Google Meet.

Who should apply?

The program is for emerging creative thinkers (0 - 3 years of creative experience) who have a passion for making things and telling stories. We’re looking for individuals excited to bring their voice and craft to Google’s creative teams. Each creative team is looking for something different so we encourage you to apply as you are, with work that best captures your craft.

What countries can I apply to?

We have creative roles in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Future Fellows need to have work authorization in the country selected on the application and be available to start in April 2021. Due to the remote nature of our workplace at this time, you do not have to live in the city where the role is listed to apply. Keep in mind that when our workplace opens safely, participants will be asked to work in our offices and we will work with you on the logistics.

Will Google sponsor my work visa?

Candidates must be eligible to work in the country selected. Google cannot sponsor visas for the Creative Fellowship program at this time.

Do I need a portfolio or a formal education in the arts?

Nope. Show us what you can do, in the way you do it best. We want to see your unique perspective, however that best comes to life. If you happen to have a portfolio, though, we’d love to see it.

What kind of projects will I be working on?

It depends. Each Fellow will be placed on a Google creative team and work on real projects under that team’s guidance. The 2019 class of Fellows worked on things like Most Searched, Find Your Scene, and pretty much everything over at about.google, along with so much more.

Is this an internship?

No. This is a nine-month, paid contractor role where candidates will be employed as freelancers via Google’s staffing partners.

If I have a disability, am I eligible for the Fellowship?

Absolutely. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Simply email us at creative-fellowship@google.com and let us know how we can help.

What are the important dates?

The program will run from April 2021 to December 2021. Expressions of interest are due by January 22, and we will extend offers in early March.
