Creative Intern

Glue Society

  • 3 months
  • Sydney, Australia

If you find yourself frustrated with the limitations of a typical job in the creative industries, perhaps a 3-month experience working with The Glue Society team will help unleash your true creative potential. Creativity Magazine called them the experts at doing things that have never been done before. And by and large that sums it up. As an intern with Glue Society, it could be that you’ll be working out what a GAYTM looks like for an agency like TBWA, how to turn a WW1 photograph into a live event for DDB, or creating a cyber attack in the real world for AMV BBDO. It could be that you’ll be writing a treatment for a classical music video, directing a documentary about road safety, or helping to create an exhibition from dismantled petrol bowsers. If you have a sense that you’d benefit from being part of the team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of creativity and trying to bring truly original ideas into the real world, then this placement could be for you.

Creative Intern

Clemenger BBDO

  • 3 months
  • Melbourne, Australia

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been to university, what you’ve studied or the path you’ve taken. Every person brings a unique skill set to the table. We are looking for creative minds with a curiosity to push boundaries. Those who are ready to think differently. You don’t have to be a copywriter, art director or designer, but should enjoy and have some skills on a creative craft. It could be writing, designing, taking photos, editing films, making cartoons. Good to haves: knowing InDesign or Photoshop if you’re into design and art direction, having a favourite campaign or idea, and be familiar with the advertising industry.

Strategy Intern

Special Group

  • 3 months
  • Sydney, Australia

Special Group is a leading independent creative company made up of around 50 beautiful minds working with a diverse group of ambitious local and global client partners including Uber, Uber Eats, CUB, Red Bull, Harris Farm Markets, Yalumba and Tourism New Zealand.

The team at Special are on the hunt for a relentlessly curious self-starter, with a passion for getting under the skin of people and culture. The role will be flexible, and you’ll have the chance to shape it as you go, but will be based primarily in the strategy department, collaborating closely with the account management and creative teams. Your core responsibility will be to provide interesting insights and fresh perspectives that can help the strategy and creative teams see and understand problems and opportunities differently. This could be through desk research into specific categories, brands, and cultural trends, or it could be by getting out there and experiencing things, observing people and talking to them first hand. Or it could be through something else that we haven’t even thought of yet, but that you’ll bring to the table.

As a Special intern, you’ll get a crash course in how a forward-thinking creative agency operates, with exposure to all disciplines and all levels of the business. You’ll get to work with truly iconic local and international brands helping them think about their business problems differently, and spotting opportunities to use creativity and entrepreneurial smarts to drive growth.

So if you’re a naturally creative thinker, problem solver, someone who’s genuinely fascinated by what makes people and society tick, and you share our values of kindness, openness and bravery, get in touch!

Why Rare Interns?

When it comes to landing roles in prestigious companies within the creative, media and tech industries, it’s not what you know – but often who. And unless you went to the right schools or grew up around people of influence, it can be incredibly hard to come across someone who’s able to give you your start.

The Rare network spans the most prestigious companies on earth – with the most sought-after positions. With those connections, we can help minorities get their foot in the door. Which ultimately helps to bridge a major social gap, usher in a new, diverse generation of talent – and enable the world’s top companies to benefit from fresh, unique perspectives on the work they do.

Who are the internships for?

Rare Internships are paid placements for Rare talent looking to start – or reignite – their careers in the creative, media and tech industries.

In order to qualify as a Rare Intern, you need to come from a diverse background, and have an interest in pursuing a career in the industries we work with.

How long do the internships run for?

Duration varies from placement to placement – though that detail is set out in each of the listings on this page.

Are Rare Interns paid?

Yes. Rare Interns are paid living wage of the city the placement is based in, for the duration of their internship. This is important, because it means people from all walks of life are able to take part – not just those from high socio backgrounds.

The salary varies from company to company, and from market to market. But, for a sense, this equates to a minimum of $10,000 AUD for a 3-month contract.

Do you offer accommodation for interns who aren’t based near a placement?

Yes. Our friends at AirBNB have offered a series of accommodation grants to support geo-diversity in cases just like this. If you’d like to be considered for an AirBNB grant, make a note of that in your application.

How can businesses get involved and offer a placement?

If you’d like to offer a placement to a Rare talent and post your opening here, just reach out to us via social channels and we’ll be in touch.
